Answered Questions

  1. How long a drive is it from Toronto?
ANSWER: I live in central Toronto and I can usually get to the townhouse in about an hour and forty five minutes. I have made the trip in faster time but I really cant afford the speeding tickets!

  2. How will I get access to the place?
ANSWER: I have an onsite rental manager that will meet you at the property and let you in. he will show you where every thing is and help you get settled. I will provide you with the rental managers name once your reservation is paid in full.

  3. How do I know the place actually exists and that you are not just trying to scam me out of my money?
ANSWER: One recommendation I have for those people that are worried is to make the drive to the unit and I will make arrangements for my rental manager to take you for a tour. Not very convenient or practical so I can offer you one other alternative. One of the places I advertise my rental is on the website http://www.homeway.com . My property listing number on this site is 190951. This website offers a "HomeAway Carefree Rental Guarantee" if you send an enquiry about my property from this website and then notify them of your intent to rent my unit you can get covered under their guarantee. Receive protection against internet fraud for 50% of your vacation rental amount up to $1,000. or take their expanded option and get covered for Protection against Misrepresentation, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and internet fraud up to an amount of $10,000. Please go to http://www.homeaway.com for further details.

  4. Does the place have Internet?
ANSWER: Yes I am pleased to say the place does have wireless high speed internet. Plese do understand though that its probably not the high speed you are used to. In this area the only way to get an internet connection is using satellite and their version of high speed is currently a lot slower then the high speed available from the major carriers.

  5. Does the place have cable or satellite TV?
ANSWER: Yes I am pleased to say the place the place has a 50" plasma TV and satellite connection for programming. But please only use it if the weather is bad. The place is far to beautiful to miss by spending all your time inside!

  6. Does the place have a DVD player and are their DVD's there for us to watch?
ANSWER: Yes, there is a DVD player to watch but i do not keep a supply of DVD's in the unit. you are welcome to go into Apsley to the general store where they have a wide selection of DVD's available for rental.

  7. Does the place have an electric video/gaming station?
ANSWER: yes in fact it has a play station. It also has two games on site and you are welcome to bring your own as well. The unit also can act as a blue ray player as well.

  8. Are linens included or do I have to bring my own?
ANSWER: Yes linens and towels are included in the rental. I would however recommend that you bring extra beach towels as I have found that people on the beach every day seem to go through more towels then I could possible supply.

  9. I have a 2 dogs, 3 cats, and a pet rattle snake, am I allowed to bring my pets on vacation?
ANSWER: Lets get serious folks.... Pets are welcome but only two of them and any pet that may be considered dangerous is not going to get access to the unit. Snakes, tigers, lion's and any other dangerous animal will not be let into the unit under any circumstances.

  10. My children are young, is there a good beach for them to swim in?
ANSWER: There is a wonderful roped off beach area in the complex and it is great for children. There is also a separate swim dock that is ideal for older children as well. Please note that this property is in the Canadian shield. This means that the beach above the water line is sand, but below it there are rocks. please bring water shoes!!!!!

  11. Does the place have a fire pit?
ANSWER: Yes it does have a fire pit that happens to be located right near the beach. Please refer to the terms and conditions guidebook for instructions on how to use it.

  12. Does the place have a BBQ?
ANSWER: Yes in fact it does have a propane BBQ and the propane is supplied. Please remember to turn off the BBQ after you are finished with it. BBQ's that are left on are a safety concern not to mention the wasted gas that is consumed by leaving it on for long periods.

  13. Do I have to pay extra for utilities?
ANSWER: Nope. utilities are included as part of the rent. Please do turn lights off when you are not in the unit and make sure that if you are running the Air conditioner you have all the windows and doors shut!

  14. If I leave the place clean and tidy can I get my cleaning fee back?
ANSWER:  The cleaning fee is calculated based on the average time it takes to take a tidy unit and sanitize it for our next tenant. This fee is usually based on about 3 hours of cleaning time and a certain amount of consumable supplies. In order to ensure that the unit is completely sanitized properly for each new tenant and to maintain my standard of cleanliness in the unit I have to use the cleaning company as a result it is not possible to give back the cleaning fee no matter how clean the place my be left. The cleaning company will need to spend the 3 hours on site to sanitize the place. If it takes them less time that that is great but for what they do it never seems to happen. If it takes them longer to clean because either the place was left messy, or they had to wait for linens to come out of the washer or dryer then the additional time it takes to clean the unit will be deducted from you security deposit.

  15. Why do I have to pay a security deposit?
ANSWER:  In order to ensure that the place is treated properly it has been proven necessary to hold cash as security for damage to the unit. This amount is usually returned in full within 15 days of the rental. On occasion it may take a bit longer if i have to wait to receive phone bills etc, to verify charges.

  16. Is the kitchen fully stocked? are there pots and pans? Utensils? Glasses and dishes?
ANSWER:  Yes, the kitchen has everything you need to cook  and serve a nice meal. Pots and pans are stored in the lower cupboards, glasses and dishware are stored in the upper cupboards, and the utensils are stored in the kitchen drawers.

  17. It mentions in your advertising that you have a canoe and paddle boat available for me to use.  How does that work? Do I get exclusive use of them?
ANSWER  The canoes and paddle boats are available for use by all my tenants. You may not be the only tenant I have in the complex at any one time. It is expected that you will be courteous and share use of these water craft with other tenants. If it turns out that this does not work, I will have to use a sign up sheet and have my rental manager supervise the use of this equipment. I really would rather not go this route is I do not have too

  18. It mentions in your advertising that you have an aluminium boat with an outboard and a Jet boat. I would love to use one of these during my stay. How does this work?
ANSWER  These boats area available for use by my tenants at my discretion. In order to use this equipment the operators of the craft by law need to have a boaters license. If they do not have a boaters license they will not be granted access to the equipment. In or to use either of these boats the prospective tenant will need to have a letter of coverage issued by their home insurance company stating that the boats will be covered for damage as well as liability in the unlikely event that an accident should occur. It should also state the amount of the deductible on the policy. Access to the boat will be granted once this letter is produced and once a cash deposit is left with us for the amount of the deductible.

  19. Is there anything else I need to know about using the place?
ANSWER  yes there is. In most cases my onsite rental manager will have gone over everything with you and told you everything you need to know about renting this cottage. It is best however if you review the terms of rental and our rental guidelines. The information is published on the web and is available here!

  20. What else is there to do in the area?
ANSWER: Down load my book on things to do in the Kawartha area and find out. You can get the download here!
